We think it is super important for our customers to know WHO is behind the product. Who are the experts that are choosing what they think you’ll love? Our first edition of meet maurices features Jewelry Buyer Tammy.
How did you come to work at maurices?
I was actually recruited for a shoe buyer position. I didn’t have any shoe background, but interviewed anyway because I thought maurices was a great company and I wanted to stay in the Midwest near family. The role was filled by a candidate with more shoe background, but my hiring manager thought I was a good fit for maurices, so I was offered a position in jewelry. Funny enough I bought accessories for 3 years in my prior job and the only two accessory departments I did not buy were shoes and jewelry.
Did you always know y0u wanted to be a buyer?
I’ve always loved fashion and textiles, but I actually started my college career with the intent of getting an accounting degree. I was working at a specialty retail store while going to college and loved it. I quickly changed my major to fashion merchandising/marketing and the rest is history.
Where do you love traveling for your job? Or traveling for personal?
I really love New York City – the food, the shopping, the entertainment. It is just a bonus that I get to travel there often for my job. My favorite vacation place is Hawaii (the big island), so peaceful.
Favorite fall/winter/spring/summer trend?
My favorite trends are pretty season-less. I love statement necklaces with EVERYTHING. And doubled up is twice as cool. I also love slouchy knit beanies, the boyfriend jean, and combat boots.
What are your other interests/hobbies?
We purchased an older 1930’s home and all my free time is spent remodeling, decorating, antique hunting… I love it! I am really inspired by French Décor and mixing antiques with found objects and really beautiful patterned textiles. I call it French Eclectic Boho.
I don’t necessarily find it difficult to be creative, but Chad will probably tell you that my creativeness often strains our “pocketbook.” What is really difficult for me is narrowing down all the ideas swirling around in my head. I am not the most patient of people and usually have several projects going on at one time.
What’s on your bucket list?
I ran my first half marathon this year, and figured I would just check that off my bucket list and move on, as I have never really been a super dedicated runner. It was so much fun, that I’ve decided I want to train for a full marathon someday.
Who makes up your family? (Significant other? Kids? Pets? Parents? Plants? Whomever you’d like to mention)
I live in a whole house full of men. As mentioned above, my husband Chad, and my 2 boys, Tanner and Hayden. We also have a German short-haired pointer named Jake. Mom is pretty much the queen of the castle. You need to really appreciate bodily function humor to live in my home.
